Two Days, Two Weddings

Wedding Cupcakes by Le Cupcake

It was a very tiring but very tasty weekend this past weekend.

My husband and I were invited to 2 weddings – one on Friday night, one on Saturday. This is the first time we’ve had weddings back to back and boy are we tired! And full.

Both couples are our university friends from way back when (LOL. I speak as though I am old but I guess I am now that it has been more than 5 years since university) and we were so honoured to be invited to share in their special day.

Celebrating with them this past weekend reminded me of my wedding 4 years ago. I got teary eyed watching the groom’s reaction as he saw his bride for the first time in her stunning white dress and was bawling by the time the speeches started.

I asked my husband if he was interested in renewing our vows and maybe planning a shindig for our family and friends next year when we celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. His answer “No. Out of budget. If you can do something that’s free, OK!” LOL. Well then…. I guess he doesn’t want to play dress up as much as I do :)

Good food, wonderful company and a whole lot of love. I am stuffed from all the cake I ate (I really have no restraint when it comes to desserts) and don’t even want to think about food today.

What about you? Has wedding season started yet? The weddings are done for me this year and I still have a few baby showers to attend by the time this Summer is over.

HELLO CAKE! :)

DIY: Baby Food Jar Light Strand

July 9th, 2010

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! We are finally back to normal after a few days of fireworks and BBQs over here. It was a very relaxing weekend indeed.

I was surfing again looking for some DIY projects for an upcoming BBQ we’re hosting and found something I could make easily.

If you have a baby/toddler, you may have lots of baby food jars sitting on your kitchen counter not knowing what to do with them (other than waiting for recycling day).

So here is a little DIY – Baby Food Jar Light Strand from Little Apartment On The Prairie

Hope you’re having a fun Summer! We’ve been experiencing a heat wave this week in Toronto and we’re finally getting some rain today. Woohooo! My flower garden needs it.

Say no to Comic Sans

June 16th, 2010

I found this on the front page of Etsy and was laughing so hard my sides started hurting – thank you itsastitch!

Looking at text in this font makes me think of the early 1980s when I was making birthday cards on my Commodore 64 computer using a program called Print Shop (I think that’s what it was called).

Comic Sans was my font of choice. Along with pixelated balloon banners. Not anymore though – I haven’t seen either of these things on any cards I’ve received in the last 10 years (no I’m not going to tell you my age!).

No Comic Sans by itsastitch

I’m sure someone is going to say no to the font I’m using in 10 years too. Who knows.. Comic Sans might make a comeback then.

But for now, just say NO to Comic Sans!

Organza Extravaganza!

June 11th, 2010

Ha ha ha. This title just cracks me up!

We’ve been MIA lately on the blog because we have been working on getting in a larger selection of organza bags for the shop.

We are still keeping with the two sizes we currently have but adding a lot more colours. With wedding season, baby shower season and need we say it in June -the holiday season which is a mere 6 months away (6 months sounds long but snow will be falling in our part of the country before we know it!), people need to have organza bags on hand.

Many of you have been writing and asking about our ivory organza bags - they’re finally back in stock!

We have a whole bunch of new colours we have to take photos of and post. So keep your eyes open in the next few weeks, it’s definitely going to be an organza extravaganza over here. HA HA. I’m laughing while I type!

Free vintage images from The Graphics Fairy

May 18th, 2010

It’s no secret. I like alot of vintage stuff. From furniture, jewelry, and most importantly – stationary!!

Imagine my delight when I was searching online one day to find FREE vintage images. Yes, free! Not a CD that you have to pay for.

The Graphics Fairy

The Graphics Fairy – I heart you. You really are a fairy. XOXO! I have so many images saved but not sure what I will do with them. Scrapbook? Make some gift tags? Journal covers?

Hope you enjoy searching her blog as much as I do – I can spend hours looking! It’s perfect for anyone who loves paper crafts. WOOHOO.

Flower Clips for your hair. Or wherever.

May 16th, 2010

HAHAHA! Just reading the title of this post makes me laugh.

Wedding season and baby shower has begun over here. In full force! It’s so busy I want to take a vacation already. Not to mention my daughter recently celebrated her 2nd birthday (threw a birthday bash for her which left me with a headache for two days – LOL, how do teachers do it? I’m so envious!)

At any rate, because we were on a bit of a budget, I resorted to some good ole craft supply box to make party stuff – invites, loot bags and clips for her hair.

I found this tutorial after the birthday party but it’s ok! Now I know where to look for next time.

So without further ado…. a tutorial for clips for your hair. Or wherever you want to put it – on a placecard, on your sweater as a brooch!

Flower Clip Tutorial from Mrs Priss

Thank you Mrs Priss! Your tutorials are awesome. Especially this one – it’s my next on my to make list!

Oh dear. I did it again.

May 10th, 2010

I forgot to post on here. I’ve been so busy lately! With a birthday party to plan for a 2 year old, a baby shower and weddings to attend. And Mother’s Day that just passed.

I’ve been bad at blogging.

My youngest sister also moved to the West Coast to work for 4 months so I spent the last two weeks with her just hanging out as I don’t see her often (she’s still in school).

So I have a few questions to ask you blogging pros. How do you find time to blog? I want to do so many things – take pictures, write, craft, and cook. Yet it seems like there’s so much going on constantly that I rarely get around to it even though my head is filled with 101 different posts.

Here’s to hoping for a 30 hour day! LOL

Feeling Lucky?

April 17th, 2010

My last post was about Polaroid film hunting. The reason I’ve been on a Polaroid kick for the past year and a bit is because of Rubyellen over at cakies.

She takes a Polaroid photo each week and posts it on her blog. I love them. Especially the ones with her daughters (it’s the mom in me speaking).

I have been taking weekly photos as well with my film – mainly of my daughter and can’t wait to get my hands on some more film.

Anyhow, if you’re feeling kinda lucky this week, we are giving away 3 $20 gift certificates to this store over at Rubyellen’s. I know the prize isn’t a Polaroid camera or film but at least you’ll get some nice packaging for your photos! :)

Good luck!

Polaroid Film Hunt

April 14th, 2010

We had a relaxing weekend. How about you?

The sun was shining and it was tshirt weather! Gorgeous!

Over the weekend I also decided I’m going to work on improving my photography skills. Again. I did this before (long time ago before I got married) and was hoping to become some famous photographer. LOL. I bought books, scoured the forums and thought about enrolling in a digital photography course at a local college.

Never happened. I read the books but forgot to apply what I’d learned and never enrolled in the course because it was out of budget. This time around I am just looking for an improvement (ie. following the rule of thirds) and am going to reread my books from 5 years ago. Will not be an aspiring photographer – just trying to capture some memorable moments for my family scrapbooks.

I have 3 cameras currently:

1. Canon Rebel DSLR (no idea the actual model number – my husband and I bought this maybe 5 or 6 years ago). Never purchased any fancy lenses and only used the one that came in the starter kit. This is the reason why I think my pictures suck. HAHAHA

2. Canon point and shoot – good for moms on the go! Most of the time I use this camera because my daughter can’t hold a pose for too long. And it fits in her diaper bag!

3. Polaroid 600 Land Camera – I LOVE IT. I have never had a Polaroid camera in my life! I remember constantly begging my parents to get me one for my birthday as everyone else I knew had one (cousins, friends). Instead they bought me a Fuji 35mm camera which I wasn’t too crazy about as the waiting to have the film processed was too long for an impatient 7 year old like me. HA. So for my 30th birthday last year I decided to buy one!

I wore it on my shoulder and went to the park with it. People stared and I got a few chuckles from men and women who actually knew what it was! Some would even stop me and ask where I bought it.

Little did I know the film would be so hard to find in Canada.

I had to order off of a US website, send to friends and my sister who was working in California at the time and then wait for them to bring it home to me. Worth the wait? Definitely! Although now I am down to my last pack of film and I use the camera sparingly. HA.

So if anyone knows where I can get some film for my Polaroid in Canada, please let me know!

I’m hoping with this new goal of mine, you’ll be able to see some improvement in my photo skills in a few months.

And if you have any quick tips on how to improve my photo taking skills, please share :)

DIY Party Ideas

April 6th, 2010

Oh dear. The upcoming months are filled with birthdays, baby showers and weddings over here. Maybe it’s because I’m of that age where everyone is either hitting a milestone birthday, getting married or having baby #1 (for some it’s #2). Some of my friends and family members are celebrating all 3 events within months of each other.

Yahoo! I am buried in to-do lists, crepe paper, glassine bags, cardstock and glitter!

So what’s a girl to do when you have 6 weddings, 5 birthdays and 2 baby showers in 4 months? You gotta get creative and have a DIY weekend.

DIY Bird Cage Lantern

I’m in the midst of figuring out how to throw a birthday party for my daughter who’s turning 2 in a few weeks that’s easy on the wallet, how to make party favours for my husband’s birthday that’s not girly (he is celebrating only a few days after our daughter) and brainstorming decor ideas for a bridal shower.

Thank goodness for blog hopping! I recently found Charlotte’s Fancy (a blog run by Molly who writes about her favourite things, family life and craft projects) and perfect timing too! Molly just posted some DIY wedding favour and party ideas.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the paper bird cages. I hope I’ll be able to make a few for my daughter’s birthday and share how they turned out.

What about you? Have any good links or tips for party favours or decor?
