Valentine’s Day DIY Ideas

Monday, February 7th, 2011

One week to go and we still haven’t started any Valentine’s Day craft projects but we’re hoping to find some time this week to make some.

I was surfing around blog land and found these cute (and very easy) DIY projects!

Lunchbox Love Notes from Lizard and Ladybug – they even double as gift tags.

Goody Bags from That’s my Letter

And for those who want to make edible gifts, some Marshmallow Valentines from Sugar Bee

Happy crafting and Happy Valentine’s Day one week in advance :)

DIY: Interchangeable Ribbon Necklace

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

One of my favourite stores happens to be Anthropologie (I think this can be said for many women) however the one in Toronto is located quite a bit away from where I live and it isn’t the most affordable place either.

Over the Summer I had my eye on some necklaces made with grosgrain ribbon and scoured the net for some tutorials on how to make them at home instead of buying them in store (because colours of the beads and ribbon were limited and don’t work with my wardrobe – I tend to wear lots of white, ivory and grey).

Look what I found!

Grosgrain Ribbon Necklace Tutorial by Infarrantly Creative

Infarrantly Creative has a tutorial for an interchangeable ribbon necklace (very similar to a necklace I wanted to purchase a few months ago).

The good thing about this project is that she uses lobster clasps on the ends of the necklace so you can change the grosgrain ribbon to match whatever outfit you have planned for the day (or night).

I love it!

Definitely a project I have to put on my “to make list”. And seeing as how the holidays are only a few weeks away, I think I’ll have to get started on some soon.

Happy crafting!

If you have come across some other Anthropologie inspired tutorials, please let me know!

DIY: Baby Food Jar Light Strand

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! We are finally back to normal after a few days of fireworks and BBQs over here. It was a very relaxing weekend indeed.

I was surfing again looking for some DIY projects for an upcoming BBQ we’re hosting and found something I could make easily.

If you have a baby/toddler, you may have lots of baby food jars sitting on your kitchen counter not knowing what to do with them (other than waiting for recycling day).

So here is a little DIY – Baby Food Jar Light Strand from Little Apartment On The Prairie

Hope you’re having a fun Summer! We’ve been experiencing a heat wave this week in Toronto and we’re finally getting some rain today. Woohooo! My flower garden needs it.

Flower Clips for your hair. Or wherever.

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

HAHAHA! Just reading the title of this post makes me laugh.

Wedding season and baby shower has begun over here. In full force! It’s so busy I want to take a vacation already. Not to mention my daughter recently celebrated her 2nd birthday (threw a birthday bash for her which left me with a headache for two days – LOL, how do teachers do it? I’m so envious!)

At any rate, because we were on a bit of a budget, I resorted to some good ole craft supply box to make party stuff – invites, loot bags and clips for her hair.

I found this tutorial after the birthday party but it’s ok! Now I know where to look for next time.

So without further ado…. a tutorial for clips for your hair. Or wherever you want to put it – on a placecard, on your sweater as a brooch!

Thank you Mrs Priss! Your tutorials are awesome. Especially this one – it’s my next on my to make list!

DIY Party Ideas

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Oh dear. The upcoming months are filled with birthdays, baby showers and weddings over here. Maybe it’s because I’m of that age where everyone is either hitting a milestone birthday, getting married or having baby #1 (for some it’s #2). Some of my friends and family members are celebrating all 3 events within months of each other.

Yahoo! I am buried in to-do lists, crepe paper, glassine bags, cardstock and glitter!

So what’s a girl to do when you have 6 weddings, 5 birthdays and 2 baby showers in 4 months? You gotta get creative and have a DIY weekend.

DIY Bird Cage Lantern

I’m in the midst of figuring out how to throw a birthday party for my daughter who’s turning 2 in a few weeks that’s easy on the wallet, how to make party favours for my husband’s birthday that’s not girly (he is celebrating only a few days after our daughter) and brainstorming decor ideas for a bridal shower.

Thank goodness for blog hopping! I recently found Charlotte’s Fancy (a blog run by Molly who writes about her favourite things, family life and craft projects) and perfect timing too! Molly just posted some DIY wedding favour and party ideas.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the paper bird cages. I hope I’ll be able to make a few for my daughter’s birthday and share how they turned out.

What about you? Have any good links or tips for party favours or decor?

What is a glassine bag?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Have you visited our glassine bags section lately?

We have them in 4 different sizes and different colours (the coloured ones have a paper outer lining which makes it suitable for stamping or jazzing them up with a drawing or calligraphy) and lots more are on it’s way!

So what is a glassine bag you ask?

Glassine Bags from The Wrappery

Glassine bags are similar to those found in bakeries used to package individual cookies and pastries. They’re made with waxed paper and are semi translucent.

They’re an inexpensive way to package your gifts and products – their semi transparent-ness (is that a word? Maybe not ;) ) adds to the mystery of what’s inside when you hand it over to the recipient!

Not only do bakeries love using these bags, so do scrapbookers, paper crafters and wedding planners! How cute would they be stacked on a table adorned with a monogram at a candy bar?

Tutorial: How to make Paper Flowers

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

How’s Winter treating you? Don’t know about you but we’re feeling kinda blahhhhhhhh because we haven’t seen the sun that much over here and forecasters are predicting a snowstorm in our area for the next few days.

So to encourage Spring to come sooner than later, we’ve decided to make a few paper flowers (or paper pom poms because that’s kind of what they look like) and hang them from our ceiling.

By Apples Modern Art

If you’re looking to inject a little colour into your home to beat the Winter Blues, here’s a tutorial from Martha Stewart on how to make these cute tissue paper pom poms.

Perfect! Found this tutorial just in time too because we are also in the process of planning a baby shower and a toddler’s birthday party and now we can make decorations without breaking the bank!

Enjoy!
